Food Allergy
Among babies and small children food allergy is widespread. Severe breathing difficulty, abdominal cramps, itching and hives are the outcome of food allergies. When a parent is allergic the usually half the children are allergic since the allergies are often hereditary, when both parents have allergies then often times all the children will have the same allergy. The same family will typically have children who are allergic to the same things. It is wise to breastfeed the baby if the mother or the father has allergies. Certain foods like chocolates, tomatoes, fish, eggs, cow’s milk and nuts are the prime allergy offenders although any food can cause a reaction. Allergies are rarely outgrown by children. A mild allergy should be treated early. The breathing passage and skin can also be effected by other allergies beside food allergies. Allergies of the breathing passage include hay fever and asthma. Sneezing, stuffed nose, itching and watery eyes are all symptoms of hay fever. Shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing and sometimes indigestion are characteristics of asthma. Eczema, hives, insect bites and stings are common skin allergies. The best way to deal with an allergy is by determining what factor causes the allergy and then avoiding it. Sometimes a series of tests may need to be conducted by a doctor to determine what the harmful substance is. Although these tests are important since they can put an end to allergic discomfort.
